What a law firm website actually has to do.
Legal searches are the most specific in local search. Nobody types "lawyer"; they type "DUI lawyer Saginaw" or "estate planning attorney Midland" with a particular problem and, often, a court date. A firm site that lists practice areas as bullet points ranks for none of those searches. One that gives each practice area a real page — what the process looks like, what it typically costs, what to bring to the first meeting, which courts you appear in — ranks for all of them and does the first consultation's worth of reassurance before the phone rings.
The second thing a prospective client does is look up the attorney. So the bio pages are not an afterthought: where you were admitted, what you actually handle, something that reads like a person rather than a CV. Then the consultation request. A form that asks what kind of matter, how urgent and in which county gets you a request you can triage; a "contact us" box gets you a paragraph you have to call about.
All of it has to sit inside the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct on advertising — no promises of outcomes, careful language around specialisation, testimonials handled within the rules. We write to those constraints as a matter of course, and we build the site to be fast, plain and credible, because in this trade a flashy site reads as the opposite of trustworthy.
The local angle
County lines are practice lines
Clients search by county seat because that is where the courthouse is: Midland County, Saginaw County, Bay County, Isabella County. A site that names the courts you appear in, and gives each county a reason to surface you, wins those searches. The demand also differs by town — Midland skews to estate and business work, Saginaw to criminal and family — and the practice-area pages should reflect where the firm actually wants to grow.
Searches we build for
- estate planning attorney midland mi
- dui lawyer saginaw
- family law attorney bay city
- personal injury lawyer mid michigan
- business attorney mount pleasant
Six things every law firm site should have.
One real page per practice area
Family, criminal defence, estate planning, personal injury, business — each with process, fees approach and what to bring. That is what ranks and what reassures.
Attorney bios that read like people
Admissions, focus, a real photograph, something outside the office. Clients search the name once they have it; this is the page they land on.
Consultation intake that asks about the matter
Matter type, urgency, county, a short description. Enough to triage and conflict-check, short enough to complete on a phone in a car park.
A clear statement of how you charge
Flat fee, hourly, contingency, whether the consult is free. Not a rate card — a sentence. Silence on fees loses clients who could afford you.
Copy that stays inside the advertising rules
No outcome promises, no "specialist" without the certification, testimonials handled within the rules. Written that way from the start, not audited afterwards.
Fast, plain and credible
Serious type, real photographs, no stock gavels, no animation. Credibility in this trade looks like restraint.
What most
law firm sites get wrong.
None of these are exotic. They're the same four or five problems on almost every site in the trade, which is why fixing them works so reliably.
A practice-area list with no pages behind it
Twelve bullet points on a Services page ranks for nothing. Each area the firm actually wants more of needs its own page.
Copying a national firm's tone
Billboard-lawyer language reads badly in a town where clients will meet you at the courthouse. Write like the firm actually talks.
Testimonials that break the rules
Client reviews are allowed with care; implied guarantees are not. A site that oversteps is a bar complaint, not a marketing win.
The stock gavel
And the columns, and the scales. Every firm has them and every client scrolls past. A photograph of your actual office door does more.
Most law firm builds
fit the Growth package.
Ten pages is what it takes for the practice areas, the attorneys and a proper intake flow. A solo practitioner with two practice areas can do it well on Starter.
Every package is a fixed, one-time price quoted before anything starts. Hosting and the domain run roughly $20 to $30 a month, billed to you directly. Compare all three packages.

Law firm sites across Mid-Michigan.
Search behaves differently in every one of these towns, and a law firm site in Saginaw has a different job from one in Frankenmuth. Each town has its own page on how we'd approach it.
Can you write the practice-area pages?
Yes — that is most of the work. We draft each page from a short conversation with the attorney who handles that work, write it for a client rather than a colleague, and send it back for review before it goes live. You check it for accuracy and for anything the rules of professional conduct wouldn't allow; we handle the rest.
Are there advertising rules we need to worry about?
Yes. Michigan's Rules of Professional Conduct govern what a firm can say about itself — no misleading claims, no implied guarantees of outcome, care with words like "specialist" and "expert", and specific handling of testimonials. We write to those rules from the start and flag anything borderline for the firm's judgement.
Can the site pre-screen consultation requests?
Yes. The intake form asks the matter type, county, urgency and a short description, and can route different practice areas to different people. It won't run a conflict check, but it gives whoever does enough to run one before anybody spends time on a call.
How long does a law firm website take?
Two to three weeks from the first conversation, with attorney review of the practice-area copy being the step that most often stretches it. Fixed price, quoted before we start, and the firm owns the site and the domain outright.
